AI Server Retirements Are About to Reshape the ITAD Market

Cirkadis Take

The first wave of GPU-dense AI servers from 2022–2023 is hitting its depreciation cliff, and the volume of still-valuable hardware coming off the floor will dwarf what most disposition programs were built to handle. The teams who plan recovery before the refresh — and who treat shredding as a last resort, not a default — are the ones who'll capture real value from this wave. It's the moment to have a remarketing-first partner in place.

The Story

Resource Recycling reports that the expansion of AI server infrastructure will fundamentally reshape the ITAD sector as GPU-dense systems reach end-of-life between 2026 and 2029. Re-Teck’s Linda Li notes hyperscale operators refresh every three to five years and that “shredding electronics is a last resort,” prioritizing data-secure disassembly, testing, parts harvesting, and repurposing to maximize recovery value. AI servers concentrate high-value GPUs, memory, and specialized cooling, and providers are adopting AI-powered visual grading to keep pace with rapidly evolving hardware designs.
